Jeffrey Wright and Mos Def (now mos) back on stage!

November 1, 2010

Lincoln Center Theater has announced casting for its coming production of John Guare’s play “A Free Man of Color.” Justina Machado (“Six Feet Under,” “In the Heights”) and John McMartin (“Into the Woods”), have joined Jeffrey Wright (“Topdog/Underdog”), who will star as Jacques Cornet, a wealthy Don Juan whose life of leisure in early-19th-century New Orleans is altered when American rule is established in the Louisiana Purchase. The 33-member cast will also include Veanne Cox, Paul Dano and mos (formerly known as Mos Def), under the direction of George C. Wolfe, a former artistic director of the Public Theater, which canceled its plans to produce the show in 2008 after an important financial backer withdrew her support. Hosted by the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, the show is now in previews, with an opening night set for Nov. 18.
