Dr. Billy Taylor-1921-2010

December 30, 2010

My main man, founder of JazzMobile, which was designed to bring Jazz to inner city neighborhoods during the summer months, and elder statesman of Jazz has gone on to glory.

Dr. Billy Taylor brought his passion and accomplishments to Sunday Morning in 1981 and over the course
of the next two decades, contributed over 250 features to the program. It wasn’t until Billy’s arrival on
television every Sunday, that CBS viewers regularly heard the story and saw the faces of “America’s classical
music,” as told by Billy.

He was a brilliant pianist and composer who was also an eloquent spokesman and advocate for jazz as well as a familiar presence for many years on television and radio. He was 89 and lived in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. He will live on in our hearts.
