Fred Hersch and Friends this week at Jazz Standard!

May 20, 2012

There is little Fred Hersch has not done. Composed music for Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass? Check. Performed an entire album of songs by Antônio Carlos Jobim? Check. Established an orchestra, the Pocket Orchestra, which includes piano, voice, trumpet, and percussion? Check. The list goes on and on, spanning four decades and nearly 50 albums. Though his work varies in texture and sound, Hersch’s original and intimate touch is always present.

Now, the brilliant and internationally acclaimed pianist will appear at Jazz Standard beginning Tuesday 5.22 thru Sunday 5.27 for duets, each night featuring a different partner.
Here is the line-up;
Alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón (Tuesday); the trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire (Wednesday); the guitarist Julian Lage (Thursday and May 26, at 11:30 p.m. only); and the vocalist Rene Marie (May 27). Sets begin at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m at Jazz Standard. This should be one for the books!
