ALL NITE SOUL celebrates the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra this Sunday!

October 6, 2012

It may sound crazy but this week Jazz N Pop is taking you to church! And you will want to stay all night long!

All Nite Soul celebrates the jazz ministry of Saint Peter’s Church, the “jazz church.” It is New York City’s longest continuously-running, all-night jazz festival.

Each year All Nite Soul honors a musician, chosen from a pool of nominees, whose life’s journey has intersected the important place of jazz music and jazz spirituality in the church. Musicians and fans come to celebrate this living legend as groups play, quite literally, all night long.

All Nite Soul honors the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra this year, presenting the band (and assorted guests) in a 7 p.m. concert that stretches into the early morning and includes dozens of musicians, like the trumpeter Jon Faddis and the pianist Kenny Werner. A preceding set, at 5 p.m., will feature the bright young Cuban pianist Fabian Almazan, leading a group with strings. At St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lexington Avenue, at 54th Street. See you at the show!
