Jazz at Lincoln Center presents The John Coltrane Festival!

October 27, 2012

Jazz at Lincoln Center has banged this gong before, as recently as 2006, but when the subject holds so much possibility it’s churlish to complain. John Coltrane’s legacy as a saxophonist and composer will be the subtext of a pair of concerts at the Rose Theater, featuring the saxophonist Joshua Redman with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; his legacy as a bandleader and melodist propel a program at the Allen Room, with his former pianist McCoy Tyner leading an impressive ensemble that includes the bassist Dave Holland and the drummer Jack DeJohnette. Mr. Redman: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Rose Theater, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, 60th Street and Broadway; $30 to $120. Mr. Tyner: Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., Allen Room, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, 60th Street and Broadway; $55 to $65; (212) 721-6500, Get there!
Until then, here’s a classic from “Coltrane for Lovers”…
