Sing Happy Birthday to Joe Henderson at the Allen Room TONIGHT!

November 17, 2012

Joe Henderson ( April 24, 1937 – June 30, 2001 ) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. In a career spanning more than forty years Henderson played with many of the leading American players of his day and recorded for several prominent labels, including Blue Note. He was one of the great distinctive post-bop tenor saxophonists, who shared his prolific voice into the 1960s.

This engagement, part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Note Records Festival, features one of his acclaimed collaborators, the vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson; a former protégé, the pianist Renee Rosnes; and on tenor, Chris Potter, one of his many grateful heirs. Rounding out the group are the trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, the trombonist Michael Dease, the bassist Robert Hurst and the drummer Lewis Nash. At 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., Allen Room, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, 60th Street and Broadway.
