Jason Moran and The Bandwagon TONIGHT through Sunday at The Vanguard!

November 23, 2012

In 2010 jazz pianist Jason Moran was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship. Even though he is in the upper echelon of today’s young jazz musicians, Moran says, “I don’t want to be defined solely by what I do as a jazz musician at a club or a festival. That’s not all of me. It’s not even close. The hardest thing to hurdle for me is to avoid being stuck in a genre and a discipline. Once you find your identity in your craft, it’s hard to not let that identity keep you imprisoned.”

We don’t think Mr. Moran has anything to worry about. He has shown his versatility time and again from The Whitney Biennial show with his lovely wife Alicia Hall Moran and artist Kara Walker, to his shows at Harlem Gatehouse with Michelle Ndegeocello. He just plain rocks jazz and he will be appearing now through Sunday at the Village Vanguard with Tarus Mateen on Bass and Nasheet Waits on Drums.

Get thee to the Vanguard TONIGHT!
