Music Review: The Daniel Bennett Group’s Clockhead Goes to Camp

May 3, 2013

Daniel Bennett Group - Clockhead Goes to Camp - ALBUM COVERGreetings readers… I just sat down and had a listen to the upcoming release from The Daniel Bennett Group entitled Clockhead Goes to Camp.

Daniel Bennet is an Alto Sax player and bandleader based in Manhattan. His experience of late has been mostly theatrical, with credits including scoring the stage adaptation of Frankenstein among others. He has shared concert billings with the likes of Bill Frissel and Greg Osby, two of our faves here at Jazz N Pop.

This latest outing is whimsical yet soothing. I specifically checked out the tracks, An Elephant Buys a New Car, Nine Piglets, and The Old Muskrat Welcomes Us. This is the kind of music I would enjoy during a fun summer outing. I would liken it to a children’s story told through music. You’ll want to follow the rhythms, as they are subtle with an interesting groove, and the instrumentation takes one to a magical place. It’s bright and airy and would provide great background music for just about any occasion.

I’d recommend Clockhead Goes to Camp to music lovers of all ages. It’s a sleeper, so pay attention. You don’t want to miss this!
