The Brooklyn Jazz Underground Festival at Small’s!

ohowarddrumThe Brooklyn Jazz Underground is a coalition of artists united by aesthetics as well as by geography, who release their albums on an affiliated label. This showcase will feature three bands each night, with highlights including Owen Howard’s Drum Lore (Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.)With his personal approach to the drums, Owen Howard is much in demand as a sideman as well. He has shared stage and studio with greats such as Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, John Abercrombie, Dave Liebman, Kenny Werner, George Garzone, Dave Holland, Sheila Jordan and Tom Harrell, to name only a few; The Rob Garcia 4 (Wednesday at midnight)A prime mover on the current Brooklyn Jazz Scene, Rob Garcia continues to be a presence internationally as well, as a sideman and bandleader; and the Adam Kolker Quartet (Thursday at midnight)Adam Kolker is a multi-talented performer, composer and arranger. He performed and recorded with latin-jazz artist Ray Barretto from 1994 through 2002 (with whom he received two Grammy nominations). He also appears regularly in New York City. Adam Kolker’s set is from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., Smalls Jazz Club, 183 West 10th Street, West Village.
