The Javon Jackson Quartet this weekend at Smoke!

July 27, 2013

jjsaxTenor saxophonist Javon Jackson, who is equally at home in the hard bop of Art Blakey or the soul-jazz of Les McCann, released two albums last year showcasing his versatility, “Remembering John Coltrane” and “Lucky 13”. His brawny, but flexible sound has been featured with a long list of jazz greats including Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter, and Charlie Haden over the years. Jackson is also a renowned educator who was recently named the new chair of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music. Here, he covers all bases with his exciting working quartet.

Here’s the line-up;

Javon Jackson (tenor saxophone) • Orrin Evans (piano) •
Corcoran Holt (bass) • McClenty Hunter (drums)
