The Rakiem Walker Project LIVE at The Red Rooster THIS Monday Night!

October 12, 2014

RakeimWalkerProjectJazz-lovers from Harlem, New York City, and beyond can catch The Rakiem Walker Project, unofficially dubbed the Red Rooster house band this Monday night. The group started about three years ago, when Rakiem Walker, band leader and saxophonist, was playing as part of a jazz trio in Brooklyn and people wanted them to do other spots. The project started out with six members — including three horns, drums, guitar, and keys – and has since gained and lost members to morph into the ten-piece band that plays Monday nights to a restaurant overflowing capacity. The group plays at B-Hive Lounge in Crown Heights on Tuesday nights, as well as occasional gigs in other venues.

The band is fundamentally jazz-based, includes members who are classically trained, and draws its set list from a variety of genres, including Latin, Top 40 R&B, and the Great American Songbook. Among the members are three vocalists, who interpret songs distinctly, and multiply the variety of sound and energy beyond what seems possible for a single group of musicians.

We are planning to drop by Red Rooster THIS Monday night. Join us!
