Ron Carter LIVE at The Blue Note TONIGHT!

March 6, 2015

carter“I think the bassist is the quarterback in any group and he must find a sound that he is willing to be responsible for.” so says Ron Carter, one of jazz’s most highly regarded bassists.

With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, he has recorded with many of music’s greats: Tommy Flanagan, Gil Evans, Lena Horne, Bill Evans, B.B. King, the Kronos Quartet, Dexter Gordon, Wes Montgomery, and Bobby Timmons. In the early 1960s he performed throughout the United States in concert halls and nightclubs with Jaki Byard and Eric Dolphy.

Mr. Carter tends to favor polish over power in his small-group work, but that doesn’t mean his bands lack a spark. Tonight at Blue Note his band features an intuitive pianist, Renee Rosnes, along with the drummer Payton Crossley and the percussionist Rolando Morales-Matos. Come on out for some live jazz and a fabulous evening, at 8 and 10:30 p.m., Blue Note, 131 West Third Street. See you TONIGHT!
